three things of note today

1. Went and met with the accountant, re: taxes. Ugh. Still, good man.

2. Watched the Battlestar premiere thanks to a friend. Neither as bad or good as expected, and of course the one plotline you don't care about is front and center while the plotline you DO care about has 1 scene.

3. While at the gym, Pop-Up-Video had Cher's "Believe" on. It states that 50% of Americans think homosexuality is "wrong." It also states that "50% of Americans believe that Socrates was an Indian Priest."

popular culture

Should I blog more about nerd news and things I like? Let's try:

- My anticipation for season 4 of Doctor Who eclipses my anticipation for season 4 of Battlestar. It does so because Who is almost a sure thing, while Battlestar can, and has, repeatedly disappointed.

- Michael Cera is going to play Scott Pilgrim in Edgar Wright's adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novel series. This is perfect.

- Warner Bros. snapped up the rights to Jeff Smith's Bone. The WB made The Iron Giant and absorbed New Line who made the Lord of the Rings trilogy, so this looks to be a good fit.

- I'm ecstatic that Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows will be split into 2 films, and that David Yates is directing them. Direct adaptations rarely succeed (the first two films) but Yates proved he knew how to streamline a literary brick with Order of the Phoenix, while giving the wizarding world some real world heft.

- While the writing is great, I can't stand the art for either the Buffy or Angel comics. Buffy's is somewhat tolerable, but Angel's is just awful. How IDW got the license is beyond me, and it appears that they're also screwing the art with the Doctor Who properties. It CAN'T be that hard to find nerd artists who are willing to draw for scale just to work on these books.

the life

Ah, the freelance life. Never knowing when work will come in or stop, never knowing when the check will arrive. It's a life, and we you get to come up for air, sometimes you want to watch something mindless. Last night that something mindless was given a name, a face, and a DVR season pass: "My Big Redneck Wedding" on CMT.

Never again will you feel bad about yourself. Never again will you think your vote doesn't count. You will be hypnotized by the train wreck.

Conversely, Torchwood season 2 has been awesome. So awesome that I can't have it on while I work, because I need to stop, watch, and pay attention.
