popular culture

Should I blog more about nerd news and things I like? Let's try:

- My anticipation for season 4 of Doctor Who eclipses my anticipation for season 4 of Battlestar. It does so because Who is almost a sure thing, while Battlestar can, and has, repeatedly disappointed.

- Michael Cera is going to play Scott Pilgrim in Edgar Wright's adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novel series. This is perfect.

- Warner Bros. snapped up the rights to Jeff Smith's Bone. The WB made The Iron Giant and absorbed New Line who made the Lord of the Rings trilogy, so this looks to be a good fit.

- I'm ecstatic that Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows will be split into 2 films, and that David Yates is directing them. Direct adaptations rarely succeed (the first two films) but Yates proved he knew how to streamline a literary brick with Order of the Phoenix, while giving the wizarding world some real world heft.

- While the writing is great, I can't stand the art for either the Buffy or Angel comics. Buffy's is somewhat tolerable, but Angel's is just awful. How IDW got the license is beyond me, and it appears that they're also screwing the art with the Doctor Who properties. It CAN'T be that hard to find nerd artists who are willing to draw for scale just to work on these books.

Two movies?! Really? That's amazing and wonderful.

Oh, and I kind of enjoyed that B52's song. I don't ever think about that band, but everything I hear by them I think is fun and kind of a good way. Campy.

Even though I really don't like Doc Who, I find myself strangely addicted to watching it at Steve 1.0's house. Damn you two for burning it into my brain.

And HP7 & 7.5 will be mucho excellenté. I am eagerly awaiting. Have you seen the first posters for HP 6?

Re: Bone Movie.

Dear Higher Power. I'm not asking it a masterpiece. But pretty please let it be not bad. Hear that higher power? Do I need to sacrifice a small creature? Or a quiche?
