While I personally prefer the one without the background — the white space feels cleaner, crisper — the one with the background is immediately recognizable as a spaceship with gifts in its tractor beam. While recognition on both is easy, recognition on the one with a "sky" background is easier.

I vote background. Makes it a bit more "wintry"
